Workman's tools recovered after reported theft in Darnley Road, Gravesend

A workman whose tools were reportedly stolen from his van managed to flag down police passing on patrol who recovered them and arrested a man.

Police were stopped by the victim in Darnley Road in Gravesend after he discovered the equipment had gone missing.

Officers carried out inquiries in the area and reviewed CCTV footage.

Two hours later, a man was arrested on suspicion of theft from a motor vehicle and has now been charged.

The tools which were reported stolen at about midday on Friday, May 22 have now been recovered and returned to the victim.

Craig Lynch, of Wrotham Road, Gravesend, will now appear before magistrates in Medway on June 15.

The 39-year-old was also charged for a separate offence on May 18 after a burglary was reported at a property in The Avenue in Gravesend.

Electrical items were reported as being stolen during the break-in.

Lynch will face a single charge of burglary along with two other suspects – Vijay Kumar, 35, of Codrington Crescent, Gravesend and Lee Mason, 38, of Roehampton Close, Gravesend.

Both men were also charged with burglary.

Mason faces a further charge of stealing a bike from outside a shop in Dover Road, Gravesend on May 20.

Mason and Kumar will also appear before Medway Magistrates' Court on June 15.
