A penalty 14 minutes from time condemned Ebbsfleet United to defeat at Wrexham in Blue Square Bet Premier on Saturday.

Fleet suffered a blow as Giannoulis Fakinos limped off early-on to be replaced by Ricky Shakes before the hosts came close when Mark Creighton headed against the post.

Yado Mambo was denied a goal and a penalty in a goalmouth scramble in first-half stoppage-time by Joslain Mayebi, and the Cameroon keeper also rushed off his line to thwart Michael West seconds after the interval.

Craig Stone picked up a booking for stopping a Wrexham break before Calum Willock drew a fine acrobatic save from Mayebi 20 minutes from time and West fired a good chance narrowly wide.

It was during Fleet's best spell of the game that Mambo brought down substitute Adrian Cieslowicz in the area with 15 minutes remaining, giving the hosts the chance to break the deadlock.

Despite furious infighting among the Wrexham players about who would take it, Jake Speight eventually stepped-up to beat keeper Preston Edwards.

Liam Daish introduced Scott Ginty in place of Craig Stone in the final 10 minutes but Fleet couldn't fashion another opportunity, despite five minutes of injury-time being played.
