And the former Maidstone caretaker manager, who was previously on the coaching staff at Welling, was more than happy to step in for the game.

"I’ve known Tristan for a while and have done some coaching work with him at the academy he set up," said Watson.

"I’ve known him over the years and I trust him. He is a good man, he knows his stuff and gives good information.

"I needed a set of eyes to help me, and he kindly stepped up to the plate.

"It was a good addition for me, a good guy, a good football man so he gave me a real hand."

When asked at the weekend if the move was likely to be anything more permanent, Watson replied: "Let’s hope so. I haven’t discussed it yet."
