Darren McQueen: Sutton United sign Ebbsfleet United striker

Ebbsfleet striker Darren McQueen has joined Sutton United on a permanent deal.

He becomes the first player to leave Stonebridge Road since Fleet announced their financial restructure and desire to reduce the playing budget.

McQueen scored the goal which clinched Ebbsfleet's promotion to the National League in May 2017.

McQueen, 23, initially joined Fleet on loan from Maldon & Tiptree in 2016 before agreeing a permanent move despite offers from Football League clubs.

He was their top scorer that season, with 20 goals, as Daryl McMahon's side went up via the play-offs.

But McQueen suffered a serious knee injury in September 2017 just as he seemed to be getting to grips with non-league's top flight.

The pacy striker made his comeback this summer and scored his first goal for more than a year in the 1-1 draw at Dover on September 4.

But his opportunities were limited under both McMahon and his successor, Garry Hill, with McQueen making just four starts in the league.

In total, the England C international scored 25 goals in 72 appearances for Ebbsfleet and he joins a Sutton side sitting seventh in the National League.
