Ebbsfleet United manager Josh Wright reacts to 1-0 win over Maidstone United in National League South

Ebbsfleet manager Josh Wright insisted beating rivals Maidstone felt like any other three points.

The Fleet were good value for a 1-0 National League South derby win at Stonebridge Road on Tuesday night, a result that moved them to within two points of the play-off places.

It gave Ebbsfleet the bragging rights over their Kent rivals but Wright wasn’t going to get carried away.

“I know that one means a lot to the fans but to me as a manager, and us as a group, that's just another three points,” stated Wright.

“That's just another game unbeaten at home, another three points at home, and we just keep going.

“It's a long season, as I keep saying. We cannot get too high. That's back-to-back wins in the league but we’ve just got to keep ticking them off.

“Don't worry about anyone else. Just worry about ourselves, and things will be okay.

“We're doing all right. If you break it down in terms of the number of games we've won, drawn and lost.

“We're not in a bad place, and we've got some injuries at the moment and there's one or two coming back that will make us stronger.”

Wright was pleased with his team’s efforts against the Stones.

There was no sign of tiredness despite having to play at League 2 Grimsby with 10 men for the second half on Saturday.

“In terms of performance, I thought we were worthy winners,” said Wright.

“I thought the first half, very front-footed, created some nice chances, nice openings. I thought we took the game to Maidstone.

“Again, if I want to be picky, I think we can be more ruthless. I think it shouldn't just be 1-0, we should be going 1-0 early in the first half, in terms of actually getting something in the first half, at least one, and finishing it two or three.

“I don't want to sound arrogant when I say that. We definitely have it in us.”

Defender Ronny Nelson scored the only goal of the game – the 16th different goalscorer for Ebbsfleet already this season.

Wright was again full of praise for Nelson, who is impressing after making the summer switch from Tonbridge.

“Ronny deserves that because he's had to bide his time this season,” said the Fleet boss.

“I didn't sign him as a project, but I signed him as someone that I'm going to have to work with him and I know I can improve him.

“You don't always sign players that are out-and-out starters, but I signed a squad that everyone would be competitive to start in my side.

“I love his attitude. He's kept himself to himself. He mixes in, in terms of he's got his group in and around it. He's not the most vocal but he's a fantastic kid and he wants to learn, he wants to work, he wants to drive, and he's aggressive.

“He's got years to improve, time to improve. I've enjoyed working with him so far, but what he gives us is something different.”
