Ebbsfleet United boss Dennis Kutrieb says he rejected offers to manage elsewhere in favour of contract extension at Stonebridge Road

Manager Dennis Kutrieb has revealed he turned down offers from other English clubs to stay at Ebbsfleet.

The Fleet boss has signed a contract extension to remain at Stonebridge Road until 2024.

But, having set his heart on staying in England, the 42-year-old German wanted to remain loyal to Fleet chief executive Damian Irvine despite interest from elsewhere.

The pair enjoy a great working relationship and Kutrieb knows it would be hard to replicate that bond.

“It was an honest talk and the club said where they are at and where they wanted to be, what we can improve on and what has worked well so far,” said Kutrieb.

“For me, Damian brought me over so I have big trust in him. There were a few small things that were on the table for me but it’s not like here.

“I trust Damian 100% and when he tells us something then we know it is going to be done.

“I’ve seen his work ethic and how hard he works to succeed and that’s similar to me.

“You need to have leaders who lead by example, not just talk, and I can see every day how hard he works. I trust him that much, that nothing else really appealed to me.”

Kutrieb had already got the green light from his family to stay in England.

He’s spent two years at the Fleet but a large chunk has been under Covid restrictions.

He’s stamped his footballing philosophy on the club and is keen to push on next season.

“I’d already said to clubs in Germany that I wasn’t available,” added Kutrieb.

“I want to manage in England again next season - that was the first decision to make, with my missus and son.

"Coming over from Germany two years ago to work in England was something that drove me.

“It was not an easy decision at the time to make the move, but two years on I know I have made the right decision and so I am very happy to stay with Ebbsfleet.”
