Ebbsfleet United sign former Dagenham striker Reece Grant and announce the departure of director of football Steve Lovell

Ebbsfleet United have added another player to their ranks but director of football Steve Lovell has left.

Former Gillingham manager Lovell joined Fleet in the role at the start of the year, initially working alongside Kevin Watson.

Lovell stayed on when Watson left and had been working alongside new German boss Dennis Kutrieb in reshaping a squad capable of winning promotion back to the National League.

Lovell’s departure was mentioned as part of a monthly statement to the club’s fans.

They said: “With the recruitment period and close season coming to an end, the club can confirm that Steve Lovell has departed his role as director of football.

“We thank Steve for his efforts during his time at the club and wish him all the very best for his next challenge.”

Some of the new signings were well known to Lovell, including Ben Chapman, who he worked with at Gillingham and also Lee Martin.

Fleet’s latest addition is striker Reece Grant who has joined from National League side Dagenham & Redbridge.

Grant scored twice against Fleet in a recent friendly at the Kuflink Stadium. He was halfway through a two-year deal at Dagenham, after they signed him from Aldershot Town, but he became a free agent after cancelling his contract with the Daggers.

Ebbsfleet, meanwhile, have also announced a new training venue, leaving behind their base at K Sports, Cobdown.

They will now be using the facilities at Dartford Valley Community Rugby Club.

Fleet said: “As part of the review process that saw our new management team and structure put in place, it was identified that better engagement with our local area, people, businesses and community overall was necessary.

“We have moved to rectify this by bringing our football operations back to the Kuflink Stadium day to day.

“Our players have been welcomed by our excellent partners at Snap Fitness and we have also linked up with our friends at nearby Dartford Valley Community Rugby Club in a partnership that will see our players utilising their state-of-the-art international-standard 3G pitch.

“Both clubs share the same values and community focus in our strategies going forward and our training arrangements have been welcomed by players and staff alike who are enjoying building a sense of “home” again, in and around where so many of you live and work daily.”
