FA Trophy: Ebbsfleet United boss Garry Hill on the 1-0 defeat to Dagenham & Redbridge

Garry Hill wanted Peter Taylor's Lottery numbers after Saturday's FA Trophy clash between Ebbsfleet and Dagenham.

It finished 1-0 to the Daggers at Stonebridge Road, where Fleet did everything but score in dreadful conditions.

They forced a dozen corners and had shots cleared off the line but somehow the visitors managed to hold on.

It just wasn't Ebbsfleet's day and boss Hill said: "I think Peter Taylor knows that.

"I’d like to have his Lottery numbers because there’s no doubt he’s won it today. But good luck to Dagenham. I don't have a problem with the situation.

“I can’t come in after the game and knock the players in respect of their effort or commitment or lack of creating chances. It just didn’t go our way and you have those days.

"We created as many chances as any game since we've been here in just over a month and it just wouldn't go in."

Angelo Balanta scored the only goal with a precise lob over Nathan Ashmore as the Fleet keeper came charging out of his penalty area.

Hill said: "In the first 30 minutes we could have been two or three up. We were very much in control of the game.

"The first time they came in our half, a long punt upfield came off the top of Jack King’s head and Nathan Ashmore's made a decision. He’s made it easy for their lad and he’s just lobbed him into an empty net. It was very much against the run of play.

"They were struggling overnight but the young goalkeeper (Lewis Moore) came in and he made two or three very good saves in the first half.

"We had one or two claims and appeals for this and that but I’m not here to turn round and make excuses.

"Coming in 1-0 down at half-time against the strong wind and the elements, I still fancied us.

"Within five minutes of the second half, we'd gone 3-4-3 so it wasn't that we weren't positive. We turned round and made the changes very early.

"We got Cody McDonald up front with Danny Kedwell and Michael Cheek and we still had our width with Corey Whitely one side and Bagasan Graham the other. We basically peppered their box continuously.

"You look at the game and there's a great ball into the box, Michael Cheek swivelled on it, smashed it and it's hit the goalkeeper in the face.

"We've had one or two scrambles in the penalty area and you know that if one goes in, you go on and win the game but it’s not to be.

"It’s very frustrating because we had enough chances to win the game. We dominated for long periods but they've taken their chance and good luck to them in the next round."
