Ebbsfleet United boss Daryl McMahon on the 1-1 draw with Maidstone United

Passion without quality - that's how Daryl McMahon summed up Tuesday night's derby between Ebbsfleet and Maidstone.

The Fleet boss saw his side open the scoring in a home league game for the first time this season through defender Kenny Clark.

But Will De Havilland's header from a corner meant it finished all square at Stonebridge Road.

McMahon said: "There were spells when it was nice and spells when it was horrible.

"You're just hoping for moments of quality and it summed the game up: two set-pieces and two centre-halves scored the goals.

"There wasn't enough quality but plenty of passion from both teams."

Clark delivered the finish of a seasoned striker by hooking a half-volley into the far corner when the ball dropped at his feet in the box.

McMahon said: "It was a terrific finish. I think he should score more and so should Dave Winfield.

"They're both actually quite good finishers when they get in there.

"It was a good game, played in a good spirit and we probably had the better of the chances, especially in the first half. It was disappointing we didn't hold onto the lead."

Ebbsfleet, who drew 1-1 at Salford on Saturday, managed to keep Stones captain and top scorer Blair Turgott quiet for most of the game.

McMahon said: "Blair's a very good player but we defended well against him. He's got nine of their 13 goals so far this season so he's a big player for them and we limited him to very little.

"Luke Coulson had a bit of cramp. He put in a real shift tonight and on Saturday at Salford so we've got to protect him.

"We had a long trip on Saturday, which is not easy, going to Salford. It took a lot of energy out of the players' legs so to get a point tonight, it's two unbeaten and we look to build on it."
