Ebbsfleet manager Daryl McMahon reacts to the 1-1 draw at Leyton Orient

Ebbsfleet boss Daryl McMahon saw his team snatch a late point at Leyton Orient on Tuesday night – and then insisted they should have taken home all three.

The Fleet trailed at the break after dominating much of the first half and needed a deflected Corey Whitely strike in stoppage time to rescue a point.

But McMahon was full of praise for his team’s football as they again impressed against a title contender in the National League.

“We should have had all three (points),” said McMahon. “I thought we were absolutely outstanding, the first half performance was probably the best since I’ve been the manager of the club.

“We’ve come to the biggest club in the division and have absolutely dominated (them). We played unbelievable football and I’m proud as punch with that performance.

“I don’t think anyone could have complained if we’d won the game given the chances we had.

“The way we played as well was pleasing. It’s something that’s really important to me, that we play the right style of football and I thought we were superb.

“We didn’t get the result we deserved but if we keep playing like that then we will.”

Fleet have created plenty of chances against promotion hopefuls Chesterfield and Leyton Orient in their first two matches.

They only have one goal to show for their efforts but McMahon is not worried after only two matches.

“We’re two games into the season,” he said. “If we weren’t creating chances then I’d be worried but we’re creating hatful of chances.

“The performance was a lot better than Saturday. We dominated the game from start to finish. They had a couple of counter attacks but in terms of dominating, it was us.

“It takes time, it’s the start of the season – some teams get off to a flier, some team start slowly. Anyone watching us play must have thought we’d be up the top end of the table come the end of the season.

“It’s difficult to assess after two matches. There’s 44 games to go, a long way to go. Performance wise we were good and we need to build on that now.”
