Ebbsfleet United boss Garry Hill on the 0-0 draw with Hartlepool United

Garry Hill did his best to put a positive spin on a poor game after Ebbsfleet failed to score for the third time in four matches.

Fleet didn't work Hartlepool keeper Scott Loach once in 90 minutes on Tuesday night as their National League match finished 0-0.

They looked short on ideas, with some players clearly low on confidence, but boss Hill was philosophical afterwards.

He said: "It was a fair result. Both teams played the same formation and cancelled each other out.

"They’re probably more happy than us with the draw and I don’t think we did enough. You’ve got to have quality to work the goalkeeper and we didn’t.

"In one way, we’re disappointed we haven’t played with the quality and to the standard we would have liked but you have to look at the picture from Saturday and Tuesday, going to Harrogate and Hartlepool at home and taking four points out of six.

"If it had been the other way round, we’d have said that’s a good return."

Hill tweaked his forward line against Hartlepool, with Cody McDonald starting alongside Michael Cheek.

Danny Kedwell had to settle for a place on the bench and McDonald was forced off with a knee injury, with Corey Whitely coming on.

Hill said: "We made the one change up there tonight. I thought the two boys up front on Saturday worked so hard away at Harrogate and I didn’t think they’d have the same kind of impact tonight.

"I went for Cody and Corey came on. It’s not happened for Corey tonight and that happens sometimes in football.

"It’s a tough league. Hartlepool came here with a new manager in charge, come off a very good 4-0 win on Saturday and we all knew they were going to be quite buoyant.

"There weren’t too many chances but it’s another point to the tally.

"We lacked quality going forward. We didn’t put enough quality into the box and 0-0 was a fair result."
