Ebbsfleet United manager Dennis Kutrieb says draw with Dulwich Hamlet was two points dropped for his 10 men

Ebbsfleet manager Dennis Kutrieb felt Saturday’s draw with Dulwich was a case of two points dropped.

The Fleet were leading 1-0 when Jake Goodman’s rash challenge saw them reduced to 10 men on the half-hour.

Dulwich levelled within three minutes of the red card and the Fleet boss felt it could have been a different story had his side held on to their lead for longer.

“At the moment I would say it was two points lost,” said Kutrieb.

“It’s a little bit unfair to the boys to say that because they did really well and gave us a great fight as a team.

“They stayed together and I’m happy with them. We will see in a few weeks how good a point it is.

“If we’d got the game to 1-0 at half-time then it could have been different.

“They were happy with a point and you could see (in the second half) they didn’t create chances. I only saw one chance in 45 minutes with one more man in the pitch.

“If we’d stayed ahead a bit longer then it would have been in their heads a bit more and they might have pressed higher and left us more space in behind.”

Kutrieb had no complaints over Goodman’s red card.

But he felt referee Andrew Humphries should have been reaching in the same pocket 10 minutes earlier when Sanchez Ming was booked for a foul on Will Wood.

“That’s what I said before, I can’t understand,” said the Fleet boss.

“I’m from Germany and I can’t see if there are other rules than there. You can see a foul is a foul, that’s fact. And a red card is a red card. So, I don’t think there are differences between Germany and England, or Spain and Italy. What I can’t understand is that it seems to be different rules.

“It was completely a clear red card, no discussions.

“But five minutes before there was a red card as well, where Wood got the ball and there was a mad foul. For me it was a red card but there was a difference (by the referee) so I have to adapt to that.

“I don’t want to moan about It because it’s football and you have to handle those situations. We handled it in a positive way so for me it’s not a reason to be negative at the moment. To play with 10 men is always very tough.”

Goodman is still working his way back from injury and was only in the side after Charlie Rowan broke his nose at Braintree and Ben Frempah is also ruled out by injury.

On Goodman, the Fleet boss added: “It’s a progress for him as well. He had a bad injury so he needs time to get back.

“But last week we lost Charlie Rowan to a broken nose and he couldn’t play on Saturday but if he was fit he would have played. Ben Frampah is not fit at the moment and so Jake had to play.

“Yes, it was a heavy touch and when you have a bad first touch then you always get problems and that was the situation.

“If he stayed (on his feet) perhaps he could have got the ball back but credit to him because he tried to get it back as soon as possible but it was a really bad foul. For me it was a red card, no discussions.”

Fleet’s second-half reaction pleased Kutrieb, and there was only going to be one winner in the closing stages with the home side on top despite their numerical disadvantage.

“I said at half-time ‘wait for your chance’,” he added. “I felt we would create chances as they would get tired and then we had space to work in. We got them but we didn’t score so the bottom line is we got one point.

“Of course, I’m unhappy and disappointed because I always want to win. I hate when I can’t win games but we can’t over-react because there is no criticism for the boys.

“They did well, they fought together as a team and when you have 10 men you have to show the basics.”
