The body of a man has been pulled from the sea at Herne Bay this morning.

Police were called to Central Parade at 6.15am after the man was seen in the water.

He washed up onto the pebbled beach opposite the former British Legion club, where police surrounded him with a tarpaulin sheet.

Two police cars and initially an ambulance attended the scene, followed by a forensic investigation van.

Police spokesman Steve Knight said: "Officers are currently at the scene and enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances."

A man - thought to have alerted police - was later seen talking to officers in the back of a patrol car.

The grim discovery comes ahead of a predicted end-of-summer heatwave today, with temperatures set to hit the mid-20s.
