Break-in and cash theft at Oskars Barbers 4 Men in Herne Bay

CCTV cameras have captured the moment a bumbling thief fumbles his way into a barber shop and pinches a cash-filled till.

The hooded man can be seen clambering through a smashed front door window at Oskars Barbers 4 Men, in Herne Bay.

KMTV report on the break-in

Once he has his hands on the till he stumbles his way out of the high street shop and jumps into the passenger seat of a getaway BMW Mini.

Two attempts to break into the barber's were made last night, with the first effort being scuppered after neighbours heard commotion.

Bricks were used to smash through the front door and a hole large enough for an oafish thief to gain entry to the locked store was made.

The theft, which happened at about 10.30pm, has left barber shop owner, Adam Ahmed, with a hefty loss of about £1,000.

"I'd say there was about £150 in the till but costs to repair the door are very expensive," Mr Ahmed said.

"It really is gutting.

"They couldn't break in the first time - they ran off because people could hear glass being smashed.

"People contacted me to say what had happened but I didn't see the messages in time, and 10 minutes later they came back in a Mini and got in.

"The man was in the shop for about eight seconds and then they drove off."

Mr Ahmed hopes other CCTV cameras in the town would have picked up more footage of the red BMW Mini used as a getaway car.
