Herne Bay Football Club offer free season tickets to frontline workers in Kent and display a giant thank you message to the NHS on their pitch

Herne Bay FC has displayed its appreciation for the NHS with a giant thank you message cut into its pitch.

Chairman Stuart Fitchie has also offered all frontline workers a free season ticket for next season - whenever that may be.

He said: “If this can show the key workers we as a club are thinking of them, for all their bravery and fantastic commitment to our county, that would be job done.

“They are all working to keep us safe whilst putting their lives on the line.

“My brother’s girlfriend, Catriona, is a nurse in London so I am kept abreast of some of the going’s on,- it’s no joke.

“This is just a small thank you and nowhere near what they deserve - just a different way to show our appreciation from all at Herne Bay FC.”

The message was cut into the grass by groundsman Anthony Deer, with the drone picture taken by CPL Films.

Club groundsman Mr Deer added: “Not only am I thankful for the job that the doctors and nurses are doing right now but the job they have done in the past with helping players with serious injuries. We are lucky to have such a great service in this country.”

Football Clubs across Kent, meanwhile, can apply for a grant to help with pitch maintenance following the announcement of a £9.5m pitch preparation fund.
