Confusion at Elizabeth Court in Herne Bay after five fire engines turn up at tower block but no sign of fire

Residents questioned why five fire engines arrived at a tower block when there was no sign of a fire.

Crews were pictured at Elizabeth Court off Queen Street in Herne Bay about 6pm.

A witness said they entered the building but did not initiate an evacuation.

The fire service later confirmed it was responding to a false alarm.

Meanwhile, pictures of a large fire had emerged on the opposite side of Herne Bay.

Crews confirmed they were called to a large amount of rubbish alight in Owls Hatch Road.

Two fire engines and a height vehicle attended at 6.05pm.

No casualties were reported and firefighters remained at the scene until 7.09pm.

The cause of the blaze is not yet known.
