The heartbroken family of a popular kebab shop owner who died suddenly aged 37 say the business was his pride and joy and will reopen.
Dad-of-five Kadir Rencber collapsed at Bay Barbers - next to his Bay Kebabs takeaway and restaurant - in Herne Bay after suffering heart failure.
It was a family business he joined 22 years ago, gaining hundreds of loyal customers.
Following the tragedy on April 19, Kadir’s widow, Tasha, says the High Street shop must continue.
Writing to his many friends, she said: “With 10 long years married, I’m heartbroken at the untimely death of my beautiful husband.
“We will reopen because it was his baby and he worked his whole life to make it for his beautiful children.
“I’m unsure when, as I don’t feel strong enough just yet, but we will for his children and in his memory.”
She has also thanked the many customers and friends who have been expressing their sadness at his loss on social media.
“I just wanted to say thank you so very much for all the wonderful comments,” she said.
“I’ve read every single one of the messages and comments, and it means so much to me to know how truly loved he really was.
“Thank you for your support, and when we reopen, I hope to see you all and listen to the wonderful and funny stories you have with him.”
Police say they were called to the High Street on April 19 following a “medical incident” at 2.35pm.
They are not treating Kadir’s death as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
Kadir’s family say he had been suffering with a heart condition that caused its failure.
In 2023, Kadir proudly expanded his takeaway with a garden restaurant at the rear, saying it was his lifelong dream.
Speaking to KentOnline at the time, he said: “What sets this place apart from other Turkish restaurants in the area is the atmosphere.
“When you come and sit down here you feel like you’re on a picnic in a mountain area and I love it.
“This has been my dream for a long time. I’ve always wanted to have a restaurant and been planning this one for five years.”
Among the many customers who have paid tribute to him is Steven Dale, who wrote: “Such a legend. Always took the time to talk with me no matter how busy he was. Such a nice man.”
Karen Tompkins added: “He always made everyone feel welcome and served great food. Nothing was too much trouble and he was always happy.”
A private funeral for Kadir was held on Thursday last week.
