Man hurt after crane collapses onto trench in Mill Lane in Broomfield

A man has been taken to hospital after a crane collapsed onto a trench he was working in this morning.

The 40-year-old was hurt in the freak incident on a building site in Mill Lane, Broomfield, at 10.10am.

Police, fire crews and paramedics were sent to the scene after reports the collapse of a mobile crane had left the man trapped in a trench.

Firefighters released him and he was taken to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford.

The extent of his injuries is not yet known, but they are not believed to be "life-threatening".

Fire crews were still at the site at 11am.
