A woman in her 70s told police she was approached by three or four teenage boys and had liquid squirted at her from a bottle.

It is alleged she was also racially abused before the suspects ran from the scene.

She was taken to a local hospital for medical attention and has since been discharged.

It has been confirmed the substance was not corrosive.

The teenagers, one of whom had a skateboard, are described as being white and aged between 14 and 15.

The update comes after officers were seen in the area yesterday, doorknocking neighbours.

No arrests have been made at this stage.

Officers attended the area and additional policing powers were put in place, resulting in a number of people being searched.

Detective chief inspector Keith Taylor said: “We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to contact us. Motorists with dashcam or residents with private CCTV are also urged to check for relevant footage.

“Incidents like these are very rare but we do not underestimate the impact it can have on a community.

“As a result, an increased police presence will be seen in the area as we continue our investigation.”
