Three town roads remain shut following emergency repairs to several burst water pipes.

Crews worked through the night to fix the mains in Herne Bay High Street, Mickleburgh Hill and Ivanhoe Road, which burst yesterday morning.

The High Street was closed between New Street and Bank Street, while Mickleburgh Hill was shut between the Canterbury Road roundabout and Douglas Road, and a section of Ivanhoe Road was also out-of-bounds

South East Water says that while the pipes are now fixed, it is not yet clear when the roads will reopen.

A photo taken in Mickleburgh Hill last night shows a large hole dug in the Tarmac, where the repairs were taking place.

South East Water’s distribution manager Adam Newbury said today: “Repairs to all three burst pipes were completed overnight.

“Our teams have now started the task of restoring the carriageways and getting the roads open again.

“We are working as quickly as possible but the closures and diversions will need to stay in place while we do this for safety reasons.

“The timescale depends on a number of factors out of our control, including the weather, but we will do everything we can to get the roads open again.”
