Tasha Rencber shared news of the relaunch with the takeaway’s Facebook followers.

“I want to say firstly, thank you all so much for your kind and wonderful words and the stories about my lovely husband,” she said.

“Some have made me laugh and cry all at the same time. He is truly a very special man.

“We are planning to open up his shop again this coming Wednesday 4th of June.

“I’m hopeful that with the support of the wonderful community in this area, we can keep the shop going for him and his children.”

There was shock and sadness at the untimely death of 37-year-old Kadir, who collapsed while at Bay Barbers, next to his takeaway and restaurant in Herne Bay High Street.

His family say he had been suffering with a heart condition that caused its failure.

Bay Kebabs was a family business he joined 22 years ago, gaining hundreds of loyal customers, and he became a hugely popular character in the town.

In 2023, Kadir proudly expanded his takeaway with a garden restaurant at the rear, saying it was his lifelong dream.

Speaking to KentOnline at the time, he said: “What sets this place apart from other Turkish restaurants in the area is the atmosphere.

“When you come and sit down here you feel like you’re on a picnic in a mountain area and I love it.

“This has been my dream for a long time. I’ve always wanted to have a restaurant and been planning this one for five years.”

News of the reopening of Bay Kebabs has been welcomed across the town.

“I hope the business continues to thrive and keeps busy in memory of your dear sweet husband,” said Theresa Barratt.

“It just won't be the same not seeing his big, smiley face.”

Andy Francis added: “It will be lovely to have the best kebab in Herne Bay back open and keeping the memories for you and your family.”
