Thanet Way delays as three-car crash near Herne Bay Sainsbury's

A three-car crash closed the Thanet Way this evening.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the accident - which police said had closed two lanes - causing long tailbacks near the new Sainsbury's at Broomfield.

Ambulance crews treated an elderly woman on the A299 coastbound carriageway at around 3.30pm.

One lane was blocked near the Beltinge and Broomfield junction and traffic was reportedly heavy towards the Herne Bay junction.

Ambulance spokesman Rich Airey said: "We have one patient being assessed in the ambulance and no other ambulances required.

"It's having quite a significant impact on the area.

"The patient we're dealing with is an elderly female. They've not asked for back up so there's no mention of serious injuries."

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called to a collision involving three vehicles on the Thanet Way, coastbound, near Herne Bay at 3.33pm.

"Officers are at the scene along with the South East Coast Ambulance Service following a report of injuries.

"Both lanes are currently closed to allow for vehicle recovery."
