Woman's smashing revenge on husband's drinking

A 60-YEAR-OLD woman took a hammer to electrical equipment in her home because she was fed up with her husband drinking.

Magistrates in Canterbury heard that Maureen Witton smashed a television, a DVD player and a hi-fi at the couple’s home in Cherry Gardens, Herne Bay.

Witton was arrested when after her husband of 42 years Fred called police.

She told magistrates: "We had been arguing and Fred had been drinking nearly all day.

"I was fed up with him so I told him I what I was going to do and then did it. Obviously, I regret that now."

Damage to the equipment, which the couple own jointly, was estimated at £1,000.

Witton admitted breaching the peace. She was bound over to keep the peace for a year in the sum of £100.
