Former QPR youngster Sam Bewick signs for Isthmian League side Herne Bay

Herne Bay have announced their third signing of the summer following the arrival of midfielder Sam Bewick.

The 27-year-old joins Raphe Brown and Dan Johnson as manager Ben Smith's latest recruits during lockdown, and returns to the club he previously joined back in December 2012.

Bewick joins from Southern Counties East side Corinthian and has also featured for Maidstone, Hythe and Faversham during his career.

He is thrilled to be returning to The Kent Vehicles Stadium, writes Joe Harbert.

"I feel there's an element of unfinished business in the league and at the club for me," he told the club's website.

"I've added a few goals to my game over the last few years, so hopefully I can bring that with me along with plenty of energy in the middle of the park.

"From speaking to the gaffer, he filled me with so much confidence that he knows how to get the best out of me this season, and you've just got to see the squad he has assembled so far to see it was a no-brainer for me."

The former QPR youngster spent last season helping Corinthian reach the FA Vase semi-finals, as well as get within just two points of the Premier Division summit prior to lockdown.

He has also worked under Bay's assistant manager Tim Dixon and head coach Darren Beale during their time at Reachfields.

Manager Ben Smith says Bewick's adaptability will prove invaluable for a side hoping to finish in the play-offs once more.

He said: "After showing some fantastic form, last season was tough for him with his injury problems, but his recovery has gone really well and he's looking extremely fit at the moment - probably ahead of where I expected him to be, which bodes well.

"Versatility and energy going both ways on the pitch are two ingredients that we need in our squad going forward, and if we can keep Sam fit and healthy then he has these in abundance."
