Family fun camping at L'Ocean Breton Yelloh! Village in Lesconil

For some, the thought of camping means sleeping in a tent, a cold shower and 'being at one with the great outdoors'.

Well, my family and I have found that ‘glamping’ is certainly another option for a young family.

We could still enjoy all the traditional camping experiences, but with some well deserved modern comforts thrown in. We stayed for a week at the superb Camping L'Ocean Breton Yelloh! Village in Lesconil in a brand new, 3 bedroom TAOS mobile home with France Break.

One of the big attractions of this particular resort for us was the fact it said it catered for young families.

We have Eloise who’s 3 and Jack who’s nearly 2, so sometimes it can be difficult to find an appropriate place for us all, but we weren’t disappointed with our choice on the coast of Brittany.

We set off on our adventure by taking a P and O Ferry from Dover to Calais and we were extremely impressed with the speed of service that we received.

The port had been in state of higher security but this didn’t affect us at all.

Our boat was on time and we were delighted with the level of choice on board, including a lovely Starbucks cappuccino (more on my love for coffee later).

My daughter Eloise was as excited to go on the ferry as the holiday itself and loved going out on deck to take in some sea air.

Our return journey was just as easy. We had made up time on our drive and we were put on an earlier boat and arrived at our front door an hour earlier than expected. A first class service.

So after a perfect crossing, it was time for the drive down to Brittany, a part of the country I’d never visited.

As we came into the region, it became apparent just how beautiful it is, with stunning views and immaculately presented gardens.

And that was no different at the resort. Even driving into the car park, it quickly became apparent just how well looked after the park was, with beautifully presented grounds and a friendly atmosphere.

The accommodation was spotless and was exciting for all of us to explore.

Eloise was chuffed with her bunkbed and there was plenty of room for the cot that the camp had supplied for Jack in bedroom 3 (the baby pack also included a bath and a brand-new highchair).

There were two bathrooms, both with lovely power showers.

We had our own decking area, complete with a designer table and chairs, as well as comfortable sun loungers, a barbecue and a relaxing view of the estuary.

As for the mod cons? We had a dishwasher, a coffee machine (the very same one that I own at home), beautiful crockery, lovely bed linen, along with plenty of kitchen utensils and appliances to prepare delicious meals with.

There was plenty for the children to enjoy at the resort and the highlights were the superb swimming pools.

They were perfect for small children with plenty of interactive sections including an interactive VW Camper van complete with a slide.

Eloise was feeling so confident, she flew down the set of large water slides too, which were in constant use by older children and adults. Hours of fun!

And if that wasn’t enough for them, there were two play parks, a trim trail and a ‘Yurt' full of baby and toddler toys.

Jack and Eloise loved the two bouncy castles too. We even had a game of football on a purpose built pitch, which was next to a multisport all-weather facility. All of this was on the grounds of a picturesque manor house.

We enjoyed going to the seaside as a family, and there were so many beautiful sandy beaches to choose from in the port of Lesconil, just minutes away from the camp. A ‘U’ Supermarket complete with a bank attached was also nearby, as well as classic boulangeries (we had fresh croissants and baguettes every day!) and other amenities.

There was a great takeaway on site, as well as a tasty restaurant that overlooked the pool. We used the shop almost everyday for lots of different items including groceries, fresh bread and even new bathers!

There were plenty more activities to do and we could have easily filled two weeks.

We’d have loved to have taken a tour of the neighbouring islands as well as explore other beautiful beaches and towns.

For older children there’s plenty on offer too, including a camp club, zip-wire adventures, and various sailing, long boarding and surfing lessons.

We’d recommend Yelloh! Village holidays for families of all ages and we were sad to leave the park behind. Camping was an experience we’ll never forget and we’d definitely do it again with all the mod cons too!
