Man charged with grievous bodily harm after allegedly spitting at member of public and saying he has coronavirus

A man is accused of spitting at a member of the public after telling him he had coronavirus.

The incident happened in Hythe High Street on Saturday.

The next day police arrested Guy Nougher, 62, in the town's Red Lion Square.

He has been charged with grievous bodily harm and appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

Nougher, of Military Road, Hythe, was remanded in custody to appear at crown court on Monday, July 20.

A police spokesman said: "A charge of grievous bodily harm has been authorised against a man who is accused of spitting at a member of the public after telling him he had coronavirus.

"Guy Nougher was arrested on June 14 in Red Lion Square, Hythe, following the incident on June 13 in the High Street.

"The 62-year-old, of Military Road, Hythe, appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court on June 16 and has been remanded in custody to appear at Canterbury Crown Court on July 20."

In April, a man was jailed after spitting at a police officer in Whitstable who was searching him following a shoplifting incident.

The man laughed as he told the officer "I have coronavirus".
