RSPCA officers say he does not appear to be hurt and has asked that dogs and children stay away.

A spokesman for the animal charity's Folkestone branch said: "We have been informed of the seal on Hythe beach today.

"Please can everyone be aware he does not seem to be injured and is just resting so please keep your distance and please do not let dogs or children approach him.

"This can be very distressing for him. Thank you."

It is the second seal to take refuge along the county's coastline this week.

A young pup was found on Greatstone beach, on Romney Marsh, on Tuesday but had to be rescued after he was found injured and underweight.

The young animal was taken to the Mallydams RSPCA centre in Hastings and given antibiotics and fluids in a bid to get him better.

It comes after an 'uncooperative' seal was rescued from Hythe beach last month after becoming stranded.

The RSPCA also rescued a pigeon that became stuck in the empty Debenhams shop in Folkestone high street this week.

The bird, dubbed Paddy, was spotted by a passer-by in the window and unable to find its way out.

He is now recovering at a vets.

An RSPCA spokesman said: "Our animal welfare officer was able to catch Paddy the pigeon, from Debenhams.

"He is now having some well deserved food and rest at Burnham House Vets, to get him fit enough for his release.

"Thank you to all who showed concern."

Debenhams closed in Folkestone on Sunday, January 19 and was one of four to close in Kent.
