Police confirmed this evening that a man in his 30s has been arrested and remains in custody while enquiries continue.

They earlier said they were investigating reports of a stabbing, but business owner Halit Guner says this was not the case.

He told KentOnline that the injured man got into an argument with another man who he was sat with.

Mr Guner said a Coca-Cola glass was thrown by one of them and it smashed on the floor, with shards going in the calf of the other.

A female customer who is a paramedic stepped in to help until the emergency services arrived about 10 minutes later.

Mr Guner said: "To be honest with you it was a shock, we don't get things like that."

He said the victim remained conscious and was talking before the emergency services arrived.

"He wasn't losing a lot of blood but he was lucky," Mr Guner said, speaking about the paramedic's presence.

He said the person who threw the glass left before the police arrived.

More as we get it.
