“The landowner is aware and will be taking the necessary action to remove them from their land. As always, we are available to advise and assist with the process if needed."

It comes as another party of travellers set up on land near the M20 at junction 11.

It is believed the group are part of an original group, which has now split up into smaller parties.

The council say the land there is privately owned and the landowner is aware. The spokeswoman added: "As always, we are available to provide advice and support but they will need to initiate the legal action themselves."

Advice on the council's website says that if an unauthorised encampment has already taken place, call the council on 01303 858660 while you should contact the emergency services on 999 in an emergency, when life is in danger or a crime is in progress.

Police have been contacted for comment.
