Leicester City looking at Hythe Town and Tonbridge Angels winger Josh Stirman

Hythe Town winger Josh Stirman has been invited for a trial at former Premier League champions Leicester City.

The 17-year-old travelled to the Midlands this week, trained with the Foxes on Monday and played in a game behind closed doors on Tuesday.

Stirman, a member of the Tonbridge Angels academy, has made three substitute appearances for the Cannons this season and started their Kent Senior Cup win over Margate.

"It's a great opportunity for him," said Hythe manager Sam Denly. "He's been really good for us, he's a smashing lad, a great talent and he's got a few clubs looking at him.

"I know Parko (Tom Parkinson) well at Tonbridge and I guess it's an unofficial loan. He's signed Bostik forms for us but he's their player.

"He's an attacking winger, got good pace, energetic, gets forward and he's a dangerous player. He's come on a few times for us and looked lively.

"Since he's come into the set-up with us, he's been head-and-shoulders above in the academy.

"It's given him that lift and confidence when he steps down to his age group so hopefully he can show that at Leicester."

Denly admits he fears the worst for another of his players, Kieron Campbell, after the winger was hospitalised during the 2-2 draw with Herne Bay on Monday.

He said: "Kieron took a really bad tackle from the keeper so he had to come off after 20 minutes.

"It looked quite bad so we're a bit worried about that. It was a stud to his knee and he felt something go.

"He's had an operation on that knee before so we're a little bit worried.

"Hopefully it's impact and not too bad but it doesn't look great at the moment."

On Saturday the Cannons visit a Haywards Heath side who won 5-4 at Horsham on Monday.

"They were struggling and then they go and get that win," Denly said. "It makes for another good game, end-to-end and open which is not really what we want but teams seem to be having a go this year.

"Haywards Heath, after That scoreline would suggest Haywards Heat are going to be an attacking opponent.

"We're unbeaten since the opening day of the season and that's a positive.

"We're creating an awful lot of chances at the moment, which is a good thing, but we've got to start stepping up and not rely on Zak Ansah to get the goals for us.

"We've got to start contributing all across the park and I'm sure we will. We're playing some good football and it's just about taking those opportunities to make things easier for ourselves."
