After a goalscoring start to life at Hythe, striker Dean Grant hopes his goals can help fire the Cannons to promotion.

The 26-year-old joined from Faversham two weeks ago and goes into the clash with his former team-mates at Reachfields on Saturday (3pm) having netted on his Town debut in the 3-1 win at Chatham on Tuesday.

Grant said: “I only got to train once before I played but it’s a good dressing room, I knew a few of the lads before. It’s buzzing.

“It feels like it used to at Faversham a year or two ago. When you’re winning games it feels easy to carry on but when you’re losing, it’s difficult to get out of the run.”

The goal was Grant’s 18th of the season but should No.19 arrive on Saturday, he won’t be celebrating.

Grant said: “I am looking forward to the game. It shouldn’t be too weird. It’s not the first time I’ve left and it’s not the first time I’ve played against a former team.

“I expect some banter but hopefully I won’t be kicked up in the air.

“I’ll be happy to score but I wouldn’t celebrate. Faversham will always be special to me, they gave me the platform to play as a striker and I have nothing bad to say about them.

“Ray Turner is a good manager and I understand his frustration – if I lost an integral part of my team out of the blue like this I’d be frustrated, too.”

He added: “It was never my intention to leave Faversham this year. I’d turned down a couple of clubs this season but when Hythe came in, it made me think a bit more.

“My main ambition is to get promoted and there’s a 20-point gap between the sides so it was a no-brainer to go and fight for promotion.

“If we can get a little run together, there’s no reason why we can’t catch the leaders.

“It would be amazing if we were able to win it and Faversham were able to make a run and get back in the play-offs – that would be the dream for me.”
