Hythe Town are chasing 10 wins to make the Bostik South East play-offs

Hythe Town may have to win their last 10 games of the season to have a chance of making the play-offs.

That’s the view of manager Sam Denly, whose side are now nine points adrift following Saturday’s defeat at rock-bottom Greenwich.

Hythe have won just two of their last seven games in Bostik South East and their promotion hopes now look remote.

Several of the teams above them have a game in hand so Denly’s men are left needing snookers.

He said: “If we’ve got any chance of getting in the play-offs, we’ve got to win 95% of the games we’ve got left – if not all them.

“The boys are still confident but talk is cheap. I’m confident and I know I’ve got the players to get us in there, but sooner or later we’re going to run out of games.

“That’s the concern for me. We can’t keep talking about, it, we need to pick up wins to make sure we stay in touch.

“Six points having played a game more isn’t ideal so we can’t afford to drop any more points.

“We’ve got 10 cup finals left and we’ve got to win every single one of them. If we can do that, we’ll give ourselves a chance.

“I’ve got faith in the players but the league table doesn’t lie at this stage of the season. We’re six points outside the play-offs for a reason – because we haven’t been good enough.

“We’re going to have to pull up trees now to get back in there but it’s still possible and we’ve got to beat teams in and around us.

“We’ve still got to play Horsham (fourth), Hastings (second) and Whyteleafe (sixth) again and we’ve got to win those games, simple as that.”

Denly, who’s brought in striker Sid Sollis on loan from Margate, is still backing himself to motivate his players.

“There’s no question of that,” he said. “The day I feel I can’t get the best out of a team is the day I walk away.

“It’s been hard this year and we haven’t gelled as well as I would have liked. With Sid coming in and maybe one more, that might kick us on.

“It has been a tough season but we’ll keep working hard and trying to improve the players.

“They’re a good group of lads and we know we can get the best out of them so we’ll keep working hard to make sure we do.”

Hythe’s game at home to Guernsey on Saturday kicks off at 12.45pm.
