Hythe Town 0 Tonbridge Angels 2 FA Cup match report

Tonbridge's brilliant start to the season continued in the FA Cup on Saturday.

They eased to a comfortable first qualifying round win at Hythe thanks to a goal in either half from Alex Read.

It was a professional display from Steve McKimm's Bostik Premier division leaders, who never looked in trouble.

Tonbridge showed their attacking intent within the opening minute when winger Adem Ramaden cut inside and fired over from the edge of the box.

They took the lead on seven minutes with a goal of great simplicity. Tommy Whitnell fed the ball wide to Ramaden, whose early right-wing cross was turned in from close range by Alex Read.

Six minutes later, the impressive Craig Stone met Joe Turner's left-wing corner but his header was cleared off the line.

Whitnell then failed to turn in Turner's cross as Angels were given time and space to play their fluent passing game.

Nigel Neita had Hythe's best chance when he worked himself space inside the penalty area but keeper Jon Henly was able to make a comfortable save.

It needed an excellent block by Charlie Webster early in the second half to deny Whitnell as Angels opened up the Hythe defence with ease.

Turner fired a free-kick into the wall while the hosts struggled to get anything together as an attacking force against a Tonbridge defence that has conceded only one league goal so far this term.

Substitute Euan Sahadow headed wide from Ryan Palmer's cross with 16 minutes left but the game was put beyond the hosts on 82 minutes.

After a flowing team move, good work by substitute Liam King down the right saw the ball fall perfectly for Read inside the area and he needed no second invitation to emphatically score beyond keeper George Kamusari.

The Hythe keeper then did well to turn behind Turner's drive and block Read's effort inside the box.
