Soccer boss quits over players' attitude

DAVE LINSTREM has resigned as manager of Hythe Town FC insisting he can no longer stomach the ‘couldn’t care less’ attitude of his players.

Linstrem resigned this week in a telephone call to chairman Paul Markland following Saturday’s 4-0 defeat at Whitstable, but admitted he had been thinking of going for some time.

The 39-year-old, who had been in the post for four seasons, said he had become disillusioned with his players, most of whom “couldn’t give a monkey’s".

He added: “When I was a player I had standards. We did things properly and when I became the manager here I tried to get our squad to do the right things. Unfortunately there aren’t enough players at the club with the right attitude.

“They think nothing of going out on a Friday night and what brought it home even more was that they were still doing it when we’re third in the league. There are some good players at Hythe but they don’t seem to have any pride in themselves."

Hythe skipper Gary Miller has been put in temporary charge of Hythe, who continue their Go Travel Kent League campaign at home to Deal on Saturday.
