They will reopen initially as 'tech help hubs' for the first three days to help consumers with gadgets they already own - even those not originally sold by the retailer.

In addition, it will offer a recycling service for old or unused items.

The retailer says it will open "slowly and safely" to protect colleagues and customers with under 50% of its estate opening doors during the first week. Stores have been shut since March.

Staff will also be on hand to deal with exchanges, repairs and returns. The retailer has extended its returns policy to cover items bought in-store up to March 24, accepting valid returns until July 6.

Goods will also be on sale, but tech help will be prioritised. Shoppers will be able to order online with next-day home delivery or same-day zero-contact 'order and collect' from the open outlets.

In Kent, they will include branches in Caterbury, Tunbridge Wells, Thanet, Medway, Maidstone and also in Orpington.

Staff will ensure social distancing is maintained.

There will be limited numbers allowed in the store at any one time, a one-way system will be in place, and markings on the floor will highlight the 2m distance.

In addition, safety screens will be installed at checkouts.

Mark Allsop, chief operating officer of Dixons Carphone, owners of the Currys PC World chain, said: “Our three day ‘tech help hub’ initiative is part of our commitment to put customers first - even customers that have previously chosen to buy their tech elsewhere. We’re pleased to be opening our stores slowly and safely across the UK and Ireland - and we will maintain extreme vigilance, constantly reviewing and improving our approach to safety in an ever-changing situation.

"Most importantly we’re proud of our colleagues themselves, people who continue to work hard to make sure consumers across the country get the tech they need safely.”
