Cats movie based on Andrew Lloyd Webber's hit musical gets helping hand from Tunbridge Wells' Harlequin Floors

A county firm helped put a spring into the step of the cast of the big screen adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's hit stage show Cats.

The upcoming film has a star-studded cast which includes the likes of James Corden, Idris Elba, who appeared in Maidstone at the weekend, Taylor Swift and Jennifer Hudson.

Filmed at the Warner Bros Studios in Hertfordshire, Tunbridge Wells-based Harlequin Floors provided sprung flooring for the cast to practice their lifts and jumps.

Jamie Stirling, technical development manager at Harlequin, visited the set and oversaw the installation.

He said: "working on projects of this scale and prestige, which are often technically challenging, is a real privilege, especially one such as this that combines film and performing arts.”

Over 550m-sq of the firms panels were required at the studio.

The movie, which met with a mixed reaction when the trailer was first released earlier this month, is due release at Christmas.

Executive producer is Steve Spielberg with director Tom Hooper delivering his second musical - his first being 2012's Les Miserables. That movie shot a number of scenes at the Historic Dockyard Chatham.
