Now, going head-to-head with projects around the UK, they both secured a RIBA National Award.

The Aisher building, sited on the front lawn of listed Victorian villa Park Grange off Sevenoaks High School, was designed by London-based Tim Ronalds Architects.

Judges described the building as a "skilful response to a complex brief with a confident piece of placemaking”.

The building, which also incorporates a host of sustainable heating and insulation, was completed in 2019.

Arts and humanities block, the Mitchell Building at Skinners, designed by London-based Bell Phillips Architects was described by judges as having "chosen to create a contemporary building that is successful in both speaking to the forms and materials of the Victorian buildings while also mediating between the wider town and the interior life of the school".

The other regional winners from the county which had gone forward to the national awards was Cobham Dairy in Cobham, an 18th century dairy transformed into luxury holiday accommodation, designed by Purcell.

In total 29 buildings across the UK were recognised at the RIBA National Awards.
