Activity in the UK property market had slowed down during March, April, May, and June when the Covid-19 pandemic took hold but that has all since changed courtesy of this welcome government incentive.

Since the easing of lockdown, people have been back looking at homes again as they seek to take advantage of the Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) cuts announced back in July by chancellor Rishi Sunak.

Buyers are currently no longer obliged to pay stamp duty on properties under £500,000 - instead of £125,000 - until March 2021, and this in turn has seen a surge in demand for new homes.

The government predicts that the temporary move will mean nine out of 10 people buying a home in 2020 won’t need to pay any stamp duty at all.
