Around 600 bales of straw have been destroyed in a fire in Canterbury which started on Monday afternoon and continued throughout the night.

The freestanding stack at Nackington Farm, opposite Simon Langton Boys Grammar School, was reported alight at 3.40pm and two fire engines from Canterbury attended.

The blaze caused a considerable amount of smoke which was seen across the city and firefighters remained at the scene throughout the night and were still keeping a watching brief on the smouldering remains on Tuesday morning.

They say the cause of the fire is unknown but potentially suspicious.
