A Kent sailor charged with murdering a colleague and trying to kill three others on a Royal Navy submarine has appeared in court today.

Able Seaman Ryan Donovan, from Hillside Road, Dartford, spoke only to confirm his name, age and address at the short hearing at Southampton Magistrates' Court.

The 22-year-old faces a murder charge and three counts of attempted murder.

He did not enter a plea and will appear again at a later date.

It follows the shooting of Lieutenant Commander Ian Molyneux, who was killed during Friday's attack on HMS Astute in Southampton.
