Actress Gemma Arterton mourns death of grandmother

The grandmother of Bond girl Gemma Arterton has been found dead at her Gillingham home.

The Quantum of Solace and St Trinian’s actress, who is from Gravesend, is believed to have been told the news on Saturday.

Her 70-year-old nan, who has been named in national reports as Helen Sarfas, was found with a fatal stab wound at her home in Beechings Way on Friday. A post-mortem examination was held on Saturday.

A spokesman for Kent Police said the death was not being treated as suspicious and officers are not currently seeking anyone else in connection with it.

He added: “The result from the post-mortem showed she died following a stab wound and there are indications that this was self-inflicted.”

An 85-year-old man who was being questioned by detectives has been released on police bail while further inquiries are carried out.

A spokesman for the 23-year-old actress, who is starring in the West End play The Little Dog Laughed which is due to open on Monday, January 11, told a national newspaper “It’s a private matter.”
