Kent to be hit with weather warning for rain

ByKentOnline reporter

Weather pundits have predicted severe thunderstorms later today, which could cause localised flooding.

Met Office experts say we could see "isolated heavy, and possibly severe, thunderstorms" across the region from 7pm tonight.

They have issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms, which could lead to some disruption overnight and into Saturday.

The alert is valid from 7pm tonight until midday tomorrow.

A Met Office expert said another hot and increasingly humid air mass is set to spread into the area from the continent.

With large amounts of energy in the atmosphere, storms could be severe - with torrential downpours and even large hailstones.

In some parts of the region there will be up to 30mm of rain in less than an hour - with up to 50mm in three hours in certain areas.
