A Paddock Wood man has been jailed for four years - after stamping on a rival's head in a pub.

Ambrose Treeby, 25, lost his temper during a row outside Fat Sam's Pub in Maidstone.

The attack left victim Lee Fosberry with brain damage, which doctors fear maybe permanent, a court heard.

Treeby, of Queen Street pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent during the incident in April.

Prosecutor John Traversi told Canterbury Crown Court: "Witnesses told how they saw how Ambrose, for no apparent reason, begin punching his victim in the stomach.

"Mr Fosberry was knocked to ground, where Treeby began jumping up and down on his head with considerable force, using both feet. The attack was eventually brought to a halt and he was later arrested."

Mr Traversi added that Mr Fosberry was taken to hospital and treated for swelling on the brain, causing serious problems. Doctors fear some of his injuries may be permanent, he added.

Judge Nigel van der Bijl, in jailing him, told how one witness to the attack reported "feeling sick to his stomach" as he watched the violence.

"The witness reported how, at one point, you were seen holding a handrail and jumping in the air.

"Then with both feet stamping on his head three or four times with force and putting all your weight into it."
