Police are investigating after lifeguards found a woman’s body floating in shallow water.

Ramsgate’s inshore lifeboat rushed to the scene off Broadstairs at 7.49am yesterday.

Paramedics attended but could not save her. The woman is believed to be aged in her mid 60s.

Police cordoned off an area around the town’s pier and investigations are on-going.

Officers could not confirm if the death was being treated as suspicious or not.

A Ramsgate RNLI spokesman said: "We were tasked to reports of a body off Broadstairs.

"On scene the crew recovered the body from shallow water, using a body bag and stretcher supplied by Kent Ambulance Service who were also on scene."
