A 23-year-old man has admitted the murder of a victim whose body was found floating in the River Medway.

Christopher Walker entered the plea shortly before he was due to stand trial at Maidstone Crown Court.

Walker, formerly of Weatherly Close, Rochester, killed Mark Potts, also 23, from Essex, between March 14 and April 19 last year.

Mr Potts died from a gunshot wound. His body was recovered from the river by Thunderbolt Pier in The Historic Dockyard at Chatham, on April 19.

Michael Wolkind, QC, defending, said he wanted to make certain enquiries and asked that sentence be adjourned until Friday. “I want to make sure we have the information we are chasing,” he said.

Agreeing, Judge Andrew Patience, QC, said: “This is a case of considerable importance and public interest.”

Walker, now of Tulse Hill, south west London, was remanded in custody.
