It has warned that road, rail, air and ferry services are likely to be affected, with longer journey times and cancellations to be expected. Some roads and bridges are likely to close.

There is also a possibility of some damage to buildings, such as tiles being blown from roofs; flying debris is also likely which could lead to injuries.

On the coast the weather service warns injuries and danger to life are likely from large waves and beach materials being thrown onto coastal roads, sea fronts and properties.

There is also a good chance power cuts may occur, with this likely to impact mobile phone signals too.

Christmas Day saw relatively calm and cold conditions with early morning snowfall recorded in some areas across the UK.

Gusts of up to 70mph are set to hit Kent.

But this is set to change as winds of up to 70mph are expected in exposed coastal locations and further downpours are also due – including here in Kent.

There was previously a yellow warning for the South East, but this was upgraded earlier this week, with the weather pattern being named as Storm Bella.

The warning will come into place tonight from 10pm until 9am tomorrow morning.
