Boy,13, faces court on death charge

A BOY of 13 is due to appear before a court today accused of manslaughter.

The teenager, from Bexley, has been charged by police investigating the death of Ernest Norton, 67, of Courtleet Drive, Erith.

Mr Norton died in February following an incident on the tennis courts at Erith Leisure Centre. At the time he was with his son.

A post-mortem examination showed the Mr Norton, a draughtsman, died of natural causes and an aggravated heart condition.

He had also suffered an injury to the head.

Thirteen youths were initially arrested near the scene in connection with Mr Norton’s death.

The 13-year-old was charged with violent disorder along with five others aged between 11 and 13. All are due to appear in court at Bexley today.
