One of Kent's busiest roads has re-opened - three hours after it was first shut due to a fire.

All lanes of the A2 were closed in both directions between the Bean interchange and the Ebbsfleet slip road earlier today.

Crews from Kent Fire and Rescue were called to a fire at a breakers yard at Watling Street, Bean shortly after 10am.

They said there was a risk of the fire spreading to an area where acetylene containers are stored.

But, shortly after 1pm, all lanes were opened, the cordon taken down and the canisters declared safe.

Heavy queues were still reported in the area.

Three pumps and a water unit were sent to the site amid reports of the fire involving two lorries, four cars and part of a workshop.

No one is believed to have been injured in the fire.
