Bulls fall off cliff at Warden

It wasn't a load of bull when fishermen reported two cows falling off a cliff.

The call came in to Sheppey Coastguard at 1.30pm on Saturday, after a fishing vessel spotted the cows at Fletcher's Battery at Warden on Sheppey.

Rescuers were duly dispatched, to find a herd of young bulls peering 30 feet over the cliff at the two stranded animals.

But as Coastguard crews started to mount a rescue operation, the two 'stranded' beasts calmly climbed back up the cliff. It's believed they thought they would be getting food.

Coastguard rescue officer Ian Goodwin said: "It was an extraordinary incident and not one we often deal with.

"On arrival on scene the entire herd was looking over the cliffs at the two bulls who had fallen off the cliffs.

"I was amazed at their skills in ascending the cliff. Relevant safety advice was passed on to the young male bulls but they seemed unfazed by their ordeal!"
