Car collides with lorry

by Rebecca Hughes and Jessica Banham

A motorist was trapped in his car on Saturday after a head-on collision with a HGV.

Fire crews were called to the B2000 between Cliffe and Cliffe Woods at around 11pm and used specialist equipment to cut the man out.

It took them two hours to free him from his 4x4 Suzuki.

A spokesman for the fire service said: "The time it took us to cut him out shows the severity of the crash, but he was conscious and talking all the way through and didn’t appear to have bad injuries."

He was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital for treatment.

Firefighters were called to Courtney Road in Gillingham around the same time after a car ended up on its roof in an accident involving three vehicles.

A man and a woman were taken to hospital with multiple injuries.
